Polenta is usually made from corn but also from the flour of other grains such as barley, both of which have many positive health effects. Corn flour is gluten-free, so it can be eaten by people with gluten intolerance.

Health benefits of polenta

Polenta is rich in minerals, vitamins, and nutrients that the body needs to function properly. It contains lots of healthy fats that promote proper bowel function. It stimulates digestion, which is why it is one of the best foods in weight loss diets.

Like rice and wheat, corn provides the body with the energy it needs. It is very rich in nutrients, folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E, thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin. It provides the body with the necessary amounts of phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, potassium, copper, selenium, and manganese.

It is low in calories, strengthens the immune system and can be safely consumed by babies and young children. Children will prefer it served with yoghurt or their favorite vegetables.

American research has also shown that polenta reduces the risk of cancer and hemorrhoids. Its antioxidant, fiber and carbohydrate content reduce bad cholesterol. Regular consumption of p polenta also has a positive effect on the heart and blood circulation.

How to make polenta

Pour 3 cups of water into a pot, add a little sunflower oil and a pinch of salt. When the water comes to a boil, reduce the heat, add a cup of corn flour and stir constantly to prevent clumping. It is recommended to use a wooden spoon for stirring as metal utensils will oxidize.

Polenta with salty cheese recipe

  • 150 g corn flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 100 g flour
  • 300 g sheep’s cheese
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • Baking soda
  • 200 ml yoghurt
  • 100 ml sunflower oil

Heat the oven to 200 degrees. Break the eggs into a bowl and whisk until frothy. Then add the oil, yoghurt, salt, flour, and baking soda. When all the ingredients are well mixed, add the cheese. Bake in the oven until the top turns golden brown.
