The symptoms of a fatty liver and an efficient recipe to prevent this disease

Liver is one of the most important organs. It plays a significant role in breaking down fats, producing enzymes, preserving optimal blood sugar levels and utilizing minerals and vitamins. No other organ can take over its functions, so the liver is indispensable. Everything we eat during our lifetime goes through the liver and gets in contact with it, therefore it is very important to pay attention to nutrition.

High blood pressure, swelling, high cholesterol level and fatigue may all signal that the liver is overused and the metabolism of fats is not happening optimally. A minimal fattening of the liver doesn’t cause serious problems; however, if the fat content reaches over 5 to 10%, then so-called fatty liver can be the result. This may also happen as a result of alcoholism.

The symptoms of fatty liver

Fatty liver is called a quiet disease, as it produces no specific symptoms for a very long time. The first sign will come to evidence only after several years. Early warning signs, however, can be reduced ability to concentrate, nausea, lack of appetite or constant weakness and fatigue.

After a while pain will appear at the top part of the abdominal area, and at the sides of the abdomen under the ribs, and brown discoloration may show up on the hands and feet. At this stage, the enlargement of the liver can be diagnosed as well. Continuous alcohol consumption can make symptoms even more pronounced.

Treatment

There is no cure for fatty liver. This illness can only be prevented, or its symptoms can be treated so they cause less discomfort and pain. As soon as the disease is detected, alcohol consumption has to be stopped immediately and overweight persons need to start dieting. Regular exercise and proper nutrition will help improving the patient’s condition as well.

Calorie intake has also to be reduced, and consuming processed foods has to be eliminated completely, as well as the consumption of foods containing lots of carbohydrates, such as white bread, potatoes, sugar and corn. Other foods that need to be avoided are margarine, butter, cream and oil. Taking unnecessary medications has to be ceased as well.

  • Mix 2 tablespoons of finely chopped dandelion roots with 200 mL water. Boil up the water, and when it starts forming, take it off the heat, cover it and leave it to infuse for 15 minutes. Drink a cup of this infusion in the morning and one in the evening.
