It is a defining moment in a woman’s life when she first hears the cries of her baby, and the first time she is shown who she carried under her heart for 9 months. A Pittsburgh obstetrician offers a worthy welcome to newborns, singing to them right after they are born.
There are those who believe that it is best to give the baby to the mother immediately, while others say that this shouldn’t happen right after birth.
Dr. Carey Andrew-Jaja, a Pittsburgh doctor is convinced that a worthy reception for the baby is of key importance. As an expression of his respect, he receives newborns with a song. So far during his career, the doctor helped eight thousand babies into the world, of which seven thousand he received with songs.
The doctor inherited this habit from an elderly professor, and he continues practicing it as a tradition. In the beginning he found it strange, but when the professor retired, he asked him to sing to newborns.
“Every baby is so special and unique that they deserve this reception” – says Carey, who is nowadays being joined in his singing by all the staff working in the delivery room as well.
