Love is said to be eternal. But what happens, if we break up with somebody we love, and we don’t see them for years or even for decades? Meeting our love again will launch powerful emotions.
Marina Abramovic and Uwe Laysiepen (Ulay) are two performance artists who used to be a couple two decades ago. Their love was very strong and passionate, as many of their friends still remember it. However, after 12 years spent together the couple decided to go their own ways. The breakup was very painful, and after that they haven’t met for 22 years until this very significant moment caught on the video.
In 2010 Marina became a protagonist in a very interesting artistic performance. The installation was entitled “The Artist Is Present” and it was targeted on direct impressions. Marina was sitting in a large exhibition hall at one end of a table with her eyes closed, and people interested in art came and sat one by one across her. At this point, she looked into the person’s eyes and they watched each other for a few seconds.
One of the people who came to sit across Marina was her lost love, Ulay. When the woman saw the man sitting across her, her tears started flowing, and the man was also overwhelmed. It is interesting to witness how the former lovers were overtaken by emotions.
