Tőserdő is a popular hiking destination situated at 25 km from Kecskemét, surrounded by the villages of Tiszaalpár, Lakitelek and Tiszaug.
The Holt-Tisza stream is the result of the regulation of the Tisza river carried out in the 1850s, and it is one of the most beautiful parts of the mid-section of the river. The forest running along the backwaters, as well as the alder tree forest and the meadow, are preserved in the original state.
The value of the protected area is increased by the nearby 40°C thermal water of Tősfürdő baths and a thousand-parcel resort area. Tőserdő is part of the resort, and it has been developed into a parkland and hiking area featuring walking paths, campfire sites, rain shelters and lookouts. The landmark of this area is an alpine meadow, where, according to Chronicle of Anonymus, the conquering Hungarians fought one of their successful battles.
Tőserdő is a protected forest, lying on a 393 hectare site, partly in the area of the Tisza river and partly on dunes created by the Danube river. The breathtaking aerial photographs have been taken by Sándor Ötvös.
