1. Turmeric soothes heartburns

According to a study conducted in 1989, turmeric supplements have been shown to be more effective in soothing heartburn and indigestion symptoms than placebo. The explanation for this phenomenon could be that this plant fights inflammation.

2. A compound in turmeric prevents heart attack

Curcumin, a compound found in turmeric, is the reason for all the health benefits attributed to this spice. In 2012 there was a study conducted which was related to the ability of curcumin to prevent heart attack. 121 patients participated in the research, which had undergone bypass surgery between 2009 and 2011. Three days before surgery and five days after it, half of the patients took curcumin capsules, while the other half received placebo pills. About 30% of patients in the second group had a heart attack after bypass, compared with only 13% of the patients in the first group. The researchers concluded that anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of curcumin can reduce up to 65% the risk of experiencing a heart attack after a bypass surgery.
