This is a tasty scone recipe spiced with garlic and filled with cheese.
Difficulty: medium | Preparation time: 60 minutes | Baking time: 10 minutes| Oven heat: 190 °C
Ingredients
- 200 ml lukewarm water
- 2 teaspoons dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 cloves crushed garlic
- ¼ cup melted butter
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 3 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 200 g cheese (can be more than one kind)
- 1 egg
Preparation
For the filling, chop up the cheese and mix it with a few teaspoons of melted butter and herbs to taste. Mix the yeast with warm water and 1 teaspoon of sugar to activate it. Add the remaining sugar, the crushed garlic, the remaining butter, the olive oil, the flour and the salt; knead it until the dough becomes bubbly. Allow the dough to rise in an oiled bowl, covered with a cloth for about 40 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 190°C. When the dough has risen, spread it out to a ½ cm thickness. Spread the cheese mixture on one half of the dough, and fold the other half of the dough over. Spread whisked egg onto the margins of the dough and press them down. Cut the dough into individual pieces and place the scones on a medium sized baking sheet; spread the remaining whisked egg onto the dough and sprinkle it abundantly with grated cheese. Bake it in the oven for 10-15 minutes. When you take the scones out of the oven, spread some melted butter onto them.
