Paralyzed doctor performs surgeries in a specialized wheelchair

In 2010, the recognized surgeon, Dr. Ted Rummel of O’Fallon, Missouri, lost his mobility from his waist down because of a cyst that burst in his spine. His condition was noticed four years ago, but his colleagues were wary of operating him, as they knew the consequences of an injured cyst during a surgery. Unfortunately, the cyst finally burst spontaneously. Thanks to an intensive rehabilitation the doctor underwent for a year, his condition has improved greatly. He didn’t want to stop working, and he never gave up hope to continue his much loved profession. Nowadays, he performs surgeries in a specialized wheelchair that holds him upright beside the operation table.
