The ingredients for this recipe are cheap and widely available. Even tahini paste can be made at home from sesame seeds.
Ingredients for 4 servings
- 400 g canned chickpeas
- The juice of one lemon
- 1 tablespoon tahini sauce (see recipe below)
- half a teaspoon of cumin powder
- 1-2 cloves of garlic
- half a teaspoon salt
- 2-3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (optional)
- 1 tablespoon paprika or paprika (optional)
- pine or pumpkin seeds, fresh parsley (for garnish)
If you do not have tahini sauce, you can make it from sesame seeds. For a jar of about 200 grams of tahini you will need the following ingredients:
- 120 g sesame seeds
- 60 ml olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of salt
Add all the ingredients in a blender and blend until you obtain a thick paste. Keep refrigerated in a glass jar covered with a lid.
Preparation
Drain the chickpeas, and mix them in a blender with the tahini paste, cumin powder, garlic and salt. Blend until creamy.
Transfer the mixture in a bowl and pour extra virgin olive oil or lemon juice (for a lower calorie option) over the top.
Sprinkle with paprika, pumpkin or pine seeds and finely chopped parsley. Enjoy!
