If you’re not in the mood for creamy, heavy, chunky cakes in the heat, but you could do with a sweet treat, try this iced coffee recipe.
If you’re looking for something sweet and refreshing in the heat, this iced coffee is the one for you, guaranteed to perk you up and also makes a great dessert. You can make the chocolate syrup at home in several minutes, or buy it ready-made.
For the recipe below, we’ve made the coffee with French press, but you can also use regular long coffee or even espresso; of course, you’ll need a lot less of that. You can also vary the proportion of chocolate syrup to your taste: you can make your coffee sweeter or slightly bitter, as you like.
The most important it is to serve it with lots of ice cubes and whipped cream.
Ingredients for two glasses of creamy iced coffee
For the chocolate syrup
- 30 g cocoa powder
- 120 ml milk
- 200 g sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- For the coffee
- 4 tablespoons coarsely ground coffee
- 350 ml hot water
- 500 ml milk
- 60 ml chocolate syrup
- Ice cubes
Preparation
Prepare the chocolate syrup: in a small saucepan, mix the cocoa powder and milk over low heat until lump-free. Add the sugar and heat until completely melted. Turn up the heat, wait until it comes to the boil and simmer for 3 minutes, taking care not to burn. Remove from the heat, stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
Pour the ground coffee and hot water into a French press, let stand for 2-3 minutes, then press down. Pour out, and wait for it to cool.
Place the coffee, milk and syrup in a blender and blend thoroughly. Add the chocolate syrup to taste.
Divide between two 400 ml glasses, and serve with ice cubes.
