Bill and Glad is a couple who have been completely devoted to each other for nearly 50 years. Given the high rate of divorces across the world, many people come to ask whether such a lasting love story may be possible. Well … These two are living proof that such amazing unions still exist.
Even though Glad is very ill, she has never lost the desire to live a beautiful life, and she is blessed with ongoing support that helps her overcome difficult moments. Bill supports her in everything, and he considers the care he has to provide his wife a privilege rather than a burden. From the moment Glad wakes up until she goes to bed, Bill helps her and ensures she is provided everything she needs.
Bill and Glad will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary this year, and the memories of these wonderful years spent together outline a story of pure love. Bill fondly recounts how he met his future wife the first time when she was only eight years old, as he was a very good friend of her brother. They grew up together, and after a while Bill noticed Glad’s interest in him, but he didn’t pay much attention to her until he turned 17 years old and she became 16. Before going to a party, the young man was struck by the beauty of the girl. From that moment on, he knew that he met his chosen one!
Their houses were situated five kilometers apart, but Bill visited Glad every day on his bicycle. This vehicle is of particular importance for the two, since even today cycling is their favourite way to spend time together.
In 2004, Bill noticed that something was wrong with his wife who had begun to feel increasingly worse. After a while the diagnostic turned their lives upside down – Glad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. To try and alleviate his wife’s the suffering, Bill has modified the bike by attaching a wheelchair to the front, so they can still have peaceful walks along the beach.
Bill is determined to be with his wife until the last moment possible, and to assure she gets the best things possible. God has given them the gift of unconditional love, and they have offered this love to one another. Over the years Glad gave her husband lots of moments of happiness, and now it’s Bill’s turn to reply with the same love and care.
