It may happen to all of us that, after using nail polish for a long time, our nails turn yellow and scary looking. Yellow nails don’t represent a health problem, but we may wish to turn them back to a normal color anyway. It’s not necessary to use harsh chemicals – here’s a list of five remedies that will do the trick.
1. Baking soda
Mix baking soda with some water to obtain a paste. Hold your nails in this paste for a few minutes to get rid of the yellow stains.
2. Hydrogen peroxide
If you don’t have baking soda at home, you may try peroxide, but this way the whitening process will last longer. You need to soak your nails five minutes a day, for several days in a row.
3. Lemon juice
For a completely natural remedy, cut a lemon in half and dip your fingernails into it. The fruit acid will make your nails white again.
4. Tea tree oil
To keep nails healthy and clean on long term, use this natural antiseptic on your nails and cuticles. Tea tree oil also eliminates yellow stains if you use it regularly for a couple of months, and it prevents yellowing with continued use.
5. Natural nail polish base
Use a protective coating before you apply nail polish in order to avoid discoloration of your nails. Also, use nail polish that doesn’t contain chemicals.
