Homemade pita bread, the simplest way!

Pita bread is a perfect choice for a delicious snack, because it can be turned into a pocket and filled with meat cubes, vegetables, cheese and different herbs. This kind of bread can be prepared in your own kitchen with little effort and from ingredients you always have in your cupboard or pantry.

Pita is actually a very simple bread dough made from water, flour, yeast and salt. What makes it special is that after it rises and starts baking, the dough swells and takes the form of that special pocket.

To make 8 pieces of pita bread, you will need 1 cup warm water, 2 teaspoons dry yeast, 2 ½ to 3 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons salt and 1-2 teaspoons olive oil.

First, mix the water and yeast with a small amount of flour, and wait for about five minutes until the yeast dissolves. Then sprinkle flour on the work surface and knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes, adding the entire amount of flour gradually. Add the olive oil at the end, and knead the dough until it becomes smooth. Allow the dough to rise for 30 minutes, divide it into eight parts, stretch out the pieces and shape the pitas. Allow them to rise for 5-6 minutes more.

Take a thick-bottomed pan and pre-heat it. As you place in the pieces of pita for baking, they will inflate instantly. Bake both sides for 3 minutes each, after which your pita bread will be ready to be turned into a delicious snack.
